There seem to be bronze plaques that exist in rome that talk about early history, but we don"t know how the early writers got info about this early period. Polybius ~150 bc was a hostage in rome (under house arrest) and gives tidbits about the early roman period. Plutarch talks about historical figures: kings & etruscan rome. Founded by romulus (a possible descendant of the gods) Washes up on the shores of palentine, raised by wolves, and founds rome!
