There is no simple answer because it depends on what you define as the fall . 293 ad: diocletian"s division (map 6. 1 hunt); diocletian divides empire administratively. 395 ad: west and east empires (honorius in ravenna, arcadius in constantinople) 406 ad: rome ends protection of the rhine: germans can easily enter roman territory. 476 ad: odoacer (germanic general) is the last emperor in the west (at ravenna); Child emperor in the west, romulus augustulus is deposed by odoacer, a germanic.
