Medical concepts: equilibrium/balance of disease to individual disease entities (concrete realities) What counts as knowledge: philosophy, lab medicine, stats . Institutions: framework has dramatically expanded and become extremely complex, agglomerations of institutions, governments are trying to create rational relationship between them, not necessarily different institutions but different within the institution. Professions: from a plurality (wide variety of practitioner) to more complicated division of labor. Healing is a social role: healer must be recognized as having a particular competence, accepted social role for the healer. Being sick is a social role: exemptions, entitlements. Naming and treating disease is a social act: do(cid:374)"t just e(cid:373)erge. Have always been those seeking to advance medical knowledge: always people who are trying to advance the nature of medical knowledge, more and more professional with time paid in research. And reduce uncertainty: one of goals in medical knowledge advancement, health care has always been full of uncertainty.
