Kemal was seen by western world as the dictator of turkey. Salutations from kemalist turkey to fascist italy. Cumhuriyet (republic)--arm of kemalist govt, still around today and considered voice of republican party. Secular, tho not necessarily right or left wing. Kemal favored 1 party, tho in theory wanted multi party democracy. Republican people"s party and the six arrows. Still active today, abt 25% of votes, major opposition party. Kemal was young, met beauty standards (light hair/eyes), war hero. Mustafa kemal teaching the new alphabet, 1928. Daily nationalist pledge, abolished in 2003 to protests. V important to turkish secular identity, but resembled fascist organizing. Depicting erdogan, using islam, to slaughter western figures. Laboratory of the ankara university anthropology department. Argument that turks were founders of civilization, are part of europe. Trying to purge foreign elements from lang. Trying to create new words really did not work--no one could understand kemal.
