02/17--rural urban migration and urban poverty in latin america. Moving to urban area brings econ opp, better healthcare, amusements/electricity. Deteriorating conditions in countryside (not enough land) Oscar lewis--urban anthropologist idea of culture of poverty --1960s. Idea that poverty for extended time/generations creates way of life/mannerisms that lead to poor ppl keeping themselves down. Of ppl live in shantytowns, squatter settlements.
