Argentina the disappeared, mothers of the plaza de mayo. Chile: imprisonment, torture, president michelle bachelet, outpouring of chilean refugees to canada, us europe. Students, labour activists, journalists, etc. were targets. Most ppl had no idea abt what was going on--everyday life went on. State terror under military regimes (argentina, chile, uruguay, brazil) Argentina--dirty war: 10-30,000 disappeared, children given to military families. Questions of justice, reparation, memory after the military regimes left power.
