Language of welsh nationalism finds a home in nonconformist sector. Liberal party had a diverse class makeup. At its heart, was belief that individuals should be free/independent from all forms of patronage/control and should be responsible for one"s actions. Thus appealing to relig nonconformists, organized labor, etc. Welsh-speaking non-conformists who believed they were the genuine representatives of wales. Before 2nd reform act 1867, only 5% of welsh population had been allowed to vote, most seats uncontested. 3rd reform act again more than doubled. Now thousands of industrial workers can vote. By late 1800s, early 1900s, conservatives hold <10 seats on borderlands. Da thomas (lord rhondda) largest of the coal barons. David lloyd george became embodiment of radical nonconformist wales, eventually pm, great speaker. 25-30 in any given parliament, organized as caucus. Demands of welsh caucus/foundations of welsh radical liberalism. Disestablishment (no longer status as state church) of anglican church in wales, almost succeeded but always met staunch conservative opposition.
