While sport has value in anyone"s life it is even more important in life of person w/ disability. *because of sport"s rehabilitative influence - medical model & to integrate person into society. Inclusion & self-determination: sport = physiological / psychological benefits, sport = teach independence. *lot of change in sport for disability: sport = created opportunity for people w/ disabilities to participate& be role models for others, sport = vital to people w/ disability because have same need to achieve as healthy people. Hugh herr = biophysicist & biomechatronics at mit. *lost both legs in climbing accident as adult. Re-integrated into sport & re-defined his profession. Hugh herr = my biological body will degrade in time due to normal age-related degeneration. But artificial part of my body improves in time because i can upgrade. *sport = not only practiced through organized sport federations. Industry around prosthetics & sport equipment for athletes w/ disabilities = huge & developing fast.
