Poetry is essential to the human experience; part of human nature. The (cid:858)(cid:271)ad guy(cid:859) is prit(cid:272)hard he tries to rationalize poetry. Criticism of keating: he is focused too much on passion and meaning, and needs to give an education that allows one the foundations necessary to understand poetry. Keating: to understand poetry = to understand yourself. Dalton is punished for the article he put in the school paper, calling for girls to be admitted to the school. The boys are taught non-conformity, though there still is presence of a hierarchy (keating = captain) Question of maturity level required to teach boys free thought. Issue: how can we balance our criticism of society without anarchism. Dalton is unconcerned with how his actions affect others.
