MGCR 360 Lecture Notes - Lecture 6: Corporate Social Responsibility, Motivation, Dan Ariely
Document Summary
In the past three weeks of class, we discussed many interesting topics, such as when an individual problem may be considered a social issue, the roles and responsibilities of an individual, the ethics of business, and corporate social responsibility. We also began the semester discussing dialogue and critical thinking. Furthermore, there were several readings in class that were particularly interesting and worth reflecting upon. The article when and why incentives (don"t) work to modify behavior by gneezy, Meier and rey-biel (2011) focuses on the impact that external incentives may have in different areas of life, such as in our education, contributing to public goods, or encouraging healthy lifestyle habits. More specifically, i agreed with the section where they implemented incentives into encouraging people to exercise and live a healthier lifestyle. They found that participants increased their gym usage if the majority of their friends were also incentivized to exercise.
