Dead body of chrst under her arms- resembles death of christ. Biblical figure- virgin holding christ and mourning-moment of drama and intense emotions, he rendered her as composed and serine and beautiful though. Marble showing veins and muscles- this shows that he s dead with the anatomical precision. Folds of the fabric- folds into many different folds creating a symmetric look- a notion of his marble mastery. Only work he signed- in latin on the bond that crosses the madonnas chest- proud of his work. David-michelangelo- notion of monumentality- 4m size- double the human size- impressive size. Carved from single block of marble- contrapposto psoture- from model of antiquity- weight of body rests on one leg, light torsion of torso, shoulders and head turn on the other side, typical renaissance figure. Biblical figure- hero that killed the giant goliath- here is offering a different iconography (no head of goliath and sword)- instead theres no head but trees.
