NUTR 207 Lecture Notes - Lecture 1: Prostate Cancer, Lycopene, Pancreatic Cancer
Document Summary
This study aims to determine dietary lycopene consumption and any potential responses associated with the risk of prostate cancer. Thus, this study provides compelling information to the role of the lycopene in tomatoes in the prevention of pancreatic cancer. However, there was no information provided on whether the studies analyzed where in vitro or randomized clinical trials, so there is only medium evidence supporting the claim to the effectiveness: crowe-white k, phillips t, ellis a. Decreases in cognitive function are related to increases in oxidative stress and inflammation that occurs with aging. Lycopene in tomatoes protects against free radicals and inflammation. Among four studies evaluating relationships between lycopene and maintained cognition, three reported significant positive relationships. Neither of the two studies proclaiming the relationship between lycopene and development of dementia reported significant results. The four studies investigating circulating lycopene and pre-existing dementia had only one that reported significant associations between lower circulating lycopene and higher rates of alzheimer"s disease mortality.
