Document Summary
Psychopharmacology: psychopharmacology involves the study of drugs used to treat mental diseases and conditions. Schizophrenia: schizophrenia is the most serious of mental illnesses, around 1% of the general population is affected by this condition significant number of people affect. It is a psychosis, meaning that the individual is no longer in touch with reality. Schizophrenic individuals will normally experience hallucinations and hear imaginary voices. These individuals are usually paranoid because the imaginary voices are commonly involved with someone trying to harm them. Studies show that there is a genetic factor involved with the disorder. With identical twins (with the exact same genetic makeup) there is a significant chance of developing schizophrenia if the other twin has it. There are different types of these pathways that may be excitatory or inhibitory. There are also different types of dopaminergic receptors in the brain (d1-d5) that can excite or inhibit.
