The tobacco plant would be dead without the nicotine: 2 variations on the smoke: Mainstream smoke: what the smoker sucks in and blows out. Side stream smoke: what comes out the burning section of the cigarette. Other people in the room are mostly exposed to side stream smoke. Smoking: a cigarette acts as a drug delivery system, the nicotine first goes into the lungs, is absorbed into the bloodstream and pumped to the rest of the body.
