PHGY 209 Lecture Notes - Lecture 4: Posterior Grey Column, Bulbous Corpuscle, Central Sulcus
Document Summary
Transductions is the opening and closing of ion channels. Glabrous skin = surface of fingers and palms. Mechanoreceptors convert mechanical deformation of your skin into neuroactivity. They all work the same way, but they have specialized end organs that surround the nerve terminal. Superficial layer for receptors that are very sensitive. Fluid filled structure that encloses the nerve terminal. Rapidly adapting, therefore sensitive to lift stroking and fluttering. Adaptation allows the afferent to be sensitive to changes in the input. Slowly adapting allows to be sensitive to pressure and texture. Connective tissue that wraps around the nerve terminal. Slowly adaptive, therefore sensitivity to stretching and bending of the skin, that"s involved in your ability to recognize the shape of objects you"re picking up. Transduction process of these mechanoreceptors are the same. What changes is the position of the receptor and the organ surrounding it. Proprioception = awareness of limbs and body position.
