As the immune response is never pure; there is always a small amount of every ig type, there is simply just a significant majority. We turn on in the entire immune response. Even with cellular responses, it is not solely cell mediated, but also humoral. Most b cells are likely to produce self-ig which are destroyed (details unknown). Before all other cells die when the lymphocytes are "turned off", those that have been involved in the immune response under- go apoptosis. However, some of the b cells remain in the bone marrow as memory cells. T cells can be highly variable in what they do; one group will only do one thing. The th2 helps the b cell series; the th1 help expand the cytotoxic t cells; treg down-regulates auto-immunity. The tcr and sig are constructed using the rag in a random fashion before birth making billions of possibilities and destroying 95% of them.
