Dorsal horn of spinal cord"s interneurons/info processing. Dreadd: adeno-associated virus system to selectively express something in certain populations of cells same idea as cre-lox, but can selectively activate certain cells using designer drugs a designer drug to be used in dreadd cells. Genetic tools used for studying neurons: a method to control pv neuron activity in a spatiotemporal manner. Fig sums up the tools used: cre-lox system, dreadd (hm3d + cno), aav injections. Cre-lox system: spatio-specificity: allows for specificity of injections to act on certain populations of, only neurons expressing x will express cre neurons. Cre excises anything between loxp sites, so things after the loxp will get expressed. Usually a reporter gene after the loxp, like tdtomato, so only neurons expressing x will express tdtomato. Also, if you flip the loxp sites so they face each other, cre will excise, flip and put back whatever is in between them.
