September 14th, 2011: third image/level, system, globalization. Globalization is causing _____: less control over foreign policy, more ethnic conflict, trade conflict. Not a feature of countries, a feature of the global community. We have to focus on all three levels of analysis: example, canada"s role in the world. Chretien vs martin vs harper: all said yes to afghanistan, harper cares about arctic sovereignty, martin never said anything. Parliamentary system: until recently, we had a minority government, shaped policies, staying in afghanistan until 2011, no more offensive operations. Small population, large territory, resources: puts a constraint in how many people can join armed forces, how much money we have to pay armed forces, 21st century us foreign policy. Bush vs obama: are their foreign policies different, yes and no. Constraints of domestic policies: how obama has to get republicans on board for his policies. Unipolarity done: us is the only superpower in the world, how do they get things.
