From lebanon to first intifada of palestinian refugees/camps: plo begins attacking again. 1970s plo moves from jordan to lebanon; cross-border attacks: plo = umbrella group for political groups and militias, mainly establishing themselves in southern lebanon with a large population, o"reilly article breaks down the war. 1978 un deploys unifil: un interim forces in lebanon, supposed to be there sort term for humanitarian assistance, still there renewed mandate this past august, only does humanitarian stuff not trying/successful in stopping war. 1982 new leader of lebanese state assassinated (by plo, plo parties, or syrian allies) 1982 operation peace for galilee: israel pushes all the way to capital city of beirut. 1982 (siege time) israel was seen as indirectly complacent as leaders of a massacre in those areas: deaths were put at the hundreds lots of women, elderly, children. Attacks not by israelis but smaller groups but they provided flares, access to the camps, turning their heads to the conflict.
