When people refer to internal colonialism or semi-colonialism, they generally are referring to. The austro-hungarian empire controlled many other naions and england controlled scotland. Naions once created, become modular," capable of being transplanted, with varying degrees of self-consciousness, to a great variety of social terrains, to merge and be merged with a correspondingly wide variety of poliical and ideological constellaions. Once a naional consciousness is created it can be spread and difused to colonies by an empire. Oten lands that were colonised had no previous concepion of naionalism so european power were able to create imperial naionalism. Classiicaion, categorisaion and appropriaion were important to colonial power. The briish implemented censuses in places where there had never been before. These appropriated cultural and historical legacies of other groups and made them part of the empire"s culture and history. Educaion was important; ideas of how the world is divided into naions were taught and became common belief.
