Expanded education, communication and transportation infrastructure, economic change and industrialization, social and cultural change. Awfully optimistic, even for the western world only really works if you look at positive stuff. Decolonization did not directly lead into development in many cases, but rather disorder and chaos. If the former outstrips the latter, political decay occurs. If the latter outstrips the former, repression occurs.
