Competence: they need to be able to understand and consent (concern when dealing with children) Voluntarism: important in insituional seings where power relaionship exist (e. g. between profs and students) Full informaion: explanaion of all potenial risks and beneits. They need to be allowed to ask quesions. They must be informed of their right to withdraw consent at any point with no negaive consequences. Can be addressed by debrieing ater giving informaion or giving them ime to think over info. Informed means whatever a person concerned about his or her own welfare would need to know before making a decision. In order to determine what they should be told you could ind people typical of your sample, explain study in full and then ask what they think is important to know in order to give informed consent. Conlict between right to do research and individual rights of privacy, self-determinaion, etc.
