Good illustration of how ordinary judiciaries can have an impact on politics. 40 years after ww2- italian politics dominated by politics of 3 main parties theme of italian elections a lot of elections- government instability. Berlusconi who had a long political career was in constant conflict with judiciary in his career. Judiciary"s public legitimacy increased dramatically during this period and seen as the main guarantor of democracy. Consequences of the campaign- parties dessimated, people investigated. But when we look at the people convicted- at the end of the tally- out of 4000 investigated only. 400 convictions, most low level operators in this system of corrupt exchange. The charges against the biggest actors- leader of democrats- acquitted in the trial. Also acquitted in a trial after ordering a murder of a journalist. He remained in the senate as a life long senator until his death. So in the end he didn"t suffer any legal consequences.
