Document Summary
Bottom up analysis : begins with sensations. Top down analysis : guided by the brain and draws on experience and expectations. Perceptual sets : when our expectation influence our perceptions. Perceptual constancy : when we perceive stimuli as the same even if their size, shape, colour, location or brightness changes. The thatcher phenomenon -- we"re very good at identifying things that are important to us -- we perceive way more than we see. When the way that we perceive a stimulus does not match reality : illusion. Clustering illusion/patternicity : tendency to detect meaningful patterns in random stimuli. Why do we trust our senses?-- because they"re extremely reliable. We process information differently each time we receive it. Gestalt theory : mac wetheimer, kurt koffka, wolfgang kohler : goes against structuralism : law of pragnanz (good figure) -- Used a lot in advertisement, and visual analysis. Where most of the neurons are concentrated.
