Document Summary
The visual cortex receives projections from both eyes but only from the opposite visual field. How does information go to both hemispheres? (eyes to brain) The visual cortex receives projections from both eyes. All visual information is projected to the thalamus (subcortical structure) -- part of the basal ganglia. The thalamus sends projections to the primary visual cortex - v1. Retinotopic organisation : retinotopic = retina + topos (place) = a place for every cell in the retina. Primary - secondary - tertiary - association. Sensation : input to our sensory receptors. Perception : interpretation of senses in the brain. Transduction : conversion of external stimulus detected by the sensory receptors to neutral activity. Difference between sensation and reception thermoreceptors : temperature. Sensory adaptation : diminished sensitivity to a stimulus as a consequence of constant chemoreceptors : taste and smell exposure to the stimulus. Sensitization : increase sensitivity to a stimulus as a consequence of constant exposure to the stimulus.
