Psychoanalyic theory: sigmund freud, childhood sexuality and unconscious moivaions inluence personality. Personality: an individual"s characterisics patern of feeling, thinking, and acing. Free associaion: psychoanalysis, method of exploring the unconscious in which the person realizes and says whatever comes to mind, no mater how trivial and embarrassing. Psychoanalysis: freud"s theory of personality that atributes the techniques used in treaing psychological disorders by seeking to expose and interpret unconscious tensions. Unconscious: freud, reservoir of mostly unacceptable thoughts, wishes, feelings, memories. According to contemporary psychologists, informaion processing of which we are unaware. Temporarily stored preconsciously: we can retrieve them into conscious awareness. We repress: forcibly block unacceptable passions from consciousness because they are unsetling to acknowledge. Id: reservoir of unconscious psychic energy that strives to saisfy basic sexual and aggressive drives, operates on pleasure principle, demanding immediate graiicaion. Ego: largely conscious execuive part of personality mediates among the demands of the id, superego, and reality.
