Document Summary
Monocular cues: occlusion - non-metrical, occlusion = #1 most simple & reliable of all. * accidental viewpoint exception only possibility of mistake. Ex: occlusion = infer 3-4 layers of objects in landscape or succession of unlikely shapes. Ex: 2 coin= 1 bigger occluding 1 smaller: if infer same size coins. So identical coin at slightly: if infer diff size coins, accidental viewpoint. Next to normal coin: relative size - metrical, relative size. Comparison of size b/w items without knowing absolute size of either one. Ex: when all things equal assume smaller objects = farther away from us than larger objects: familiar size - metrical, familiar size. Comparison of size b/w items when knowing absolute size of 1 of the items. Can infer absolute distance because we know exact size of 1 of the objects. Ex: use reference to estimate size of object know height of man & compare to statue.
