We try to cope in various ways. Afterlife beliefs, drugs: death, directly, indirectly; A common (indirect) way of coping with death anxiety is to maintain a: maintain a cultural worldview, see self as a valued member of the culture (increasing self-esteem) Cultural worldviews imbue the world with meaning, order, stability and permanence, and by so doing, buffer the anxiety that results from living in a terrifying and largely uncontrollable universe in which death is the only certainty . Study 1: allows us to have an organised world view, upholding cultural values as a way of maintaining one"s cultural.
