Placebo response is a state, not a trait. We can all be placebo responders sometimes. Some people are more likely to respond to placebo than others (ex: optimists) Matters how subjective and objective measures are: easy to show in defined subjectivity. Lower (not necessarily absent) with objective measure. Ex: how long it takes to do something with parkinsons", wound healing: based on expectation, depends on how expectation is created suggestion is going to. Clinical trial: placebo or possible painkiller (different placebo than "this is a help painkiller": experience helps, clinician: Takes aspirin for headache and it works. Takes aspirin for headache and it doesn"t work. The more the clinician believe a treatment works, the larger the placebo effect. Clinician-patient rapport/bedside manner: communication, enthusiasm, compassion, reassurance. Placebo effect is bigger due to white coat. Learned to do a better placebo effect.
