Document Summary

Stuff from the mother"s environment gets into the amniotic fluid. If they keep sniffing/smelling something that they find pleasant, or at least not move away. We can watch facial expression like we did for taste. Interested in the reactions of newborns to different kinds of smells. Put different smells in front of newborns" nose (banana, chocolate, honey) These could be physiological responses, evolutionarily developed to prevent us from eating things that could potentially poison or kill us we cannot know for sure that this is not an environmental response, however. Could reflect preferences for smells that babies were exposed to in the womb, but probably not because these reactions in general go across humans all over the world, not only those who were exposed to these specific foods. This tells us that they detect the differences between the kinds of odors.
