Supposedly, broca thought that all of the extra damage was due to spreading o the stroke and he therefore tried to pinpoint the origin to the posterior ifg. Lesions in humans are carried out my disease (cerebral vascular accidents, and stokes) and it usually causes a restriction of blood supply to certain parts of the brain. All we can say from lesions is that lesions around there cause something, and lesions around somewhere else cause another deficit.
