Psyc311: lecture 22: posterior dorsolateral pfc and the ventrolateral. Last time we focused on the notion of general working memory. When we make selections from the same pool of numbers (ex: say the digits 1-6 in a random order and don"t repeat them). You have to mentally tag the digits you"ve already said and the ones that remain. When we move behind these mid-dorsolateral areas, we find another region, area 8, and the anterior portion of area 6. This anterior portion of area 6 lies anterior to the precentral gyrus. These two areas, area 6, and 8, seem to be critical in situations where you have to make choices between many alternative, competing responses. At the traffic light you can stop, go, continue straight, go left, go right, etc. This is a situation where there are alternative possibilities and you have to make a choice.
