Midterm won"t cover the first book but will have covered the major theories: will not be on the second book, there are a few chapters after the major theories that we are not responsible for. In social identity theory you have to have the perception of cognitive altneratives: you have to perceive that your low-status group was illegitimately in that position = inequity in the group, equity theory therefore encompasses other theories. One test is to carry the hose 100 meters in a certain amount of time. Women can"t do this therefore they can"t be firefighters. 6 feet tall and 200 pounds, to have authority. First change was to have more men on the force (shorter men, for example) they don"t have to walk around much, can drive cars and use phones for communication. Women want to be police officers you have to be able to lift the gun but they thought they could make the gun smaller.
