Rct is a group theory, and was, right from the start. Had a huge impact when it came to application of the theory to real-world con icts. The genesis of the theory started with one experiment. A scarce resource can also be something like status/power. Question: why is it that in the education system, we don"t just hand out phds [i. e. status/education] to all students who paid tuition? it would devalue the degree because it would no longer be a scarce resource . If everyone has it, no one does (i. e. if everyone wins, everybody loses) The drama of it is why this experiment is still remembered so vividly. Many times in politics, the threat of terrorism is brought up to rally the people into working together toward the superordinate goal of defending the country/surviving. In summary: according to rct, intergroup con ict is centred around the way a situation is structured to achieve a goal/acquire a scarce resource.
