Assumptions e. g. neural activation is correlated with blood flow and blood oxygenation. What"s measured e. g. lying or decision making. No matter how good the technique- cannot be any better if what you are trying to measure so if your definition of a disorder sucks, you could have the best equipment and it will not discriminate. Just because you have instruments that are solid and good, does not mean you are actually measuring anything- does not tell you what you are measuring. First is that with an fmri you are assumed to be measuring oxygenation of blood- you assume you are measuring diff. in neural activity- logical but still an assumption. In many studies- when you see a pic. of a head with an area with more activity- typically, that involves a composite of many subjects- it is not describing an individual. If you look at a single individual you will not find this specific finding.
