Manic depression: bp & mdd, primary mood disturbance. Dementia praecox: cognitive disintegration: attention, memory, goal-directed behavior later labelled as schizophrenia. Bp is very rare to have manic only, will eventually develop depression and becomes bp. In dsm 5 bp is between depressive and schizophrenia , in terms of symptoms similarity and genetics, family history. Bipolar: diagnosis based on presence of manic episode. Flight of ideas and distracting thoughts, appear similar to schizophrenia.
