PSYC 342 Lecture Notes - Lecture 22: Endocrine System, Follicular Phase, Gonadotropin-Releasing Hormone Agonist
Document Summary
Psyc 342 reproductive hormones and behaviours in women ii. April 5th (part i will not be tested on as the lecture did not happen) Estrogens increase addictive behaviour and progesterone decrease it. Study: admin cocaine and tested subjective experience for women found that more positive experience during high estrogen phases. Da: increased da release as result of estrogens (sort of like agonist, estradiol reduces inhibition on da release) therefore increased rewarding effect of the stimulant. Behavioural component associated with reward increase (not so general)? increase in impulsive behaviour (do estrogens promote impulsive behaviour) Chart: ovarian cycle phases and how they influence impulsive behaviour. ^^compared women in early and late follicular phase (early=low e and p and late=rising e) Found: impulsive behaviour=greater in early follicular phase (low e associated with high impulsive behaviour), and within the early follicular phase e levels are positively related to impulsive behaviour. Shows there are moderators in play: e. g. dopaminergic genetic differences.
