Mindfulness-Based Therapies and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy
• What is mindfulness?
o Mindfulness: the awareness that arises from paying attention on purpose, in the
present moment, and non-judgementally
▪ Definition by Kabat-Zinn
• He brought mindfulness to people’s attetio
▪ Attention-Intention-attitude
▪ Attention-> paying attention to the present moment without worrying
about the past or future
▪ Intention-> aware of present circumstances, not passive
▪ Attitude-> thankful to yourself, curious about your mind

▪ Non-judging

• Start with fingers, go up arm, to head, go down the body
• Walk through each aspect of the body

• Everything around the mountain is what you experience

• Develop positive feelings towards yourself and other people
