PSYC 406 Lecture Notes - Lecture 1: Sleep Deprivation
Document Summary
It is not always easy to measure what we are trying to observe. Someone who doesn"t let go of something and wants their way all the time, and believes what they want to believe and doesn"t listen to others. You could make a decision about what you think stubbornness is, and someone else might want to add something to that. We have to make a final decision and pursue our research based on this information. All of our research would be based on what we think stubbornness is. Traits, intelligence, disorders are essentially all based on people who made approximate definitions of what they think a particular characteristic is. All of research is based on this and begins with this. Depression is real because we are able to assess symptoms. On the other hand, the shape of it isn"t real it is something we decide.
