Document Summary

F1 in the macaque corresponds to primary motor cortex (area 4, m1) in humans. Macaque f4 and f5 correspond to human ventral premotor cortex + mirroring properties (area 6, pmv) Macaque f3 corresponds to human supplementary motor area (area 6, sma proper) Active movements reveal somatotopy in f1 (primary motor cortex) with distal body parts represented on the bank of the central sulcus. The somatotopy repeats in areas f4/f5 (premotor cortex), with distal body parts represented on the bank of the arcuate sulcus. Proximal body parts are represented in between on the cortical convexity. Mapping of neurons in frontal motor areas. Recorded the response of neurons to cutaneous and proprioceptive movement, stimulate and observe cells. Recording takes place below the spur of the arcuate sulcus. Pink area in primary motor cortex h labels indicate recording sites active when animal makes hand movements area f4 face and mouth area neurons active during movements other than those involving the hands.
