Document Summary
Anecdote: a picture from my 3 year old nephew. He would make a picture for koestner. Koestner would praise him for his work in front of his older brother who didn"t draw a picture. He would try to praise the older brother as well when he could. Create bond: kids like being praised. Motivate: want a child to do more of what they do. Protect: want to praise kids that aren"t doing very well so they would feel better about themselves, koestner tried to praise his nephews in sports although they weren"t very athletic, teachers do this a lot. Manipulate: want to use praise to guide a child to where you want them to go. Wanted to study the interaction between teachers and students. Collected a lot of data and wrote a paper as a function of praise as used by teachers. Praise = to commend the worth of someone"s behaviour or to express approval or admiration.
