Extrinsic moivaion: instrumental to achieving goals, rewards, making others happy etc. When we think about moivaing others (paricularly kids): rewards, praise, compeiion. Both k and his older brother both loved basketball. Since they had immigrant parents, his older brother was slower at being americanised (at 7 learned english vs. 3 for k) and thus didn"t get into organized sports like k. When he was 18, abandoned basketball and never played again. But now, his older brother even though in his 60s plays basketball every weekend. Why does his brother sill love it, and he didn"t. His brother avoided organized sports and k got caught up. Peeked in freshman year and then felt he wasn"t geing beter. As captain of team when he was a senior.
