Always lived in fear, so immune to the fear that police impose on them. Iron fist = lead to anyone being shot. Taboo = blacks not allowed to use violence to active what they want. Rejection = not allowed to participate in society- prior to 60s, riots used to be white against. But gnat uses violence & legitimizes it. But these riots = black anger, hostility. No one thought watts riots were going to happen bc la was such a perfect place. But black panthers considered biggest threat by fbi. Born in a state of suspended animation, disconnected. Provoked to became instruments of their own oppression. Don"t get caught slipping or get killed. Can"t have a heart, but brutal force. Want respect, but is interpreted as fear. 4m left the south to ny, chicago, etc.
