SOCI 330 Lecture Notes - Lecture 28: Inorganic Chemistry, Sough, Meritocracy
Document Summary
** as opposed to weber, durkheim is clear in his thoughts. His methodology: social facts, he treats social phenomena as social facts. Religion: analyzing totemism and why people have religion in society. Suicide: the 4 types of suicide. His methodology (in rule of sociological method) starts out with a question: what is the nature of social reality: he says that social reality is not quite visible like other things in life (object). But it s a different kind of reality. Social facts/ social reality has its own reality. But at the same time, you cannot break down those things in individual consciousness. When you are explaining social facts, you have to treat them as external and as a whole you should not break it down to their individual qualities: constraining our behavior. They exert some kind of pressure unto individual.
