Integration of new ideas and beliefs to form a new religious tradition. Syncretism: a blending of beliefs/traditions from two or more cultures. People became dissatisfied with spirituality and looked for answers. These tribal ppl in melanesia have never seen these goods, didn"t know how they worked. Became imagined as spiritual entity that would bring cargo to them again. Try to attract them by building airport strips, planes made of wood, etc. After troops left the islanders were left stressed. Tried to attract the soldiers back to the island. Ex. clip in class of the prince phillip movement. Limited numbers of people, tend to fizzle out, don"t really reach the level of being a religion. Can be seen as theft from a certain religion. Taken to britain to be put on display like a zoo animal.
