Fundamental to survival and to who we are. Crops to cuisine (1960s: certain types of food practices lead to cultural differences. Fishermen: study of ancient animals that were killed and eaten by people. Interested in what people eat- deterministic and in the language: the(cid:455) eat food, the(cid:455) do(cid:374)"t just take (cid:374)utrie(cid:374)ts, (cid:862)do(cid:374)"t eat spe(cid:272)ies, eat (cid:373)eals. Pig/cow versus pork/beef: food, meals and consumption = culture. Climate, ecology and natural resouces determine the specific culture: ex: cold climate= focus on fire building, warm dress, stocking food for winter months, rain or snow: triangle roofs versus flat roofs. Inuit communities rely on meat and fish: nature heavily influences culturally practices, but is it the sole reason, easy to eat what is on your doorstep.
