ANTHROP 1AA3 Lecture Notes - Tooth Pathology, Paleopathology, Respiratory Tract Infection
Document Summary
Major types of evidence: skeletal and dental pathology. Soft tissue can see some other parasites (or symptoms) through the soft tissues. Paleopathology- the study of disease and injury in the human skeleton (and sometimes mummies) Establish presence of disease based on evidence from skeletal remains. Some variables that affect the expression of disease. Ex: spinal column of somebody with tb (respiratory infection), we can tell if somebody has tuberculosis in the skeleton. Nutritional status: whether or not you are having a healthy diet (has an impact on immune system, etc. , if somebody is malnutrition, you can see from immune system. Age of individual: infants and children, because their immune system is just developing, if they have a high fever, it affects them more (not being able to withstand as much) Social conditions: things like where a person lives, water quality, population density, access to medical care, etc. Malaria is not a big problem and mosquitos cannot withstand the winter.
