At about this time we have the appearance of kenyapithecus (first recognised in kenya, hence name), the first hominoid to descend from the trees to the ground and practice a form of simple knuckle walking (like gorillas today). Between 15 12 mya we have a number of similar hard- fruit and grass-seed eating species flourishing in eastern africa. Kenyapithecus we have evidence to show that this transition to ground dewelling began much earlier. There are different ways in which members of the species could adapt, not all of which would have been successful / followed (i. e. survival of the fittest). Being large mammals (cid:449)e(cid:859)(cid:396)e (cid:271)ig (cid:272)o(cid:373)pa(cid:396)ed to (cid:373)ost (cid:449)a(cid:396)(cid:373)-blooded animals, and we have become larger still through our evolutionary history simply stated this means we need to eat more to survive.
