People"s norms for gender behavior vary widely but common patters do exist. Gender: roles people have, values and attitudes people have towards men and women; culturally constructed. Sex: a biological category; birth and products of the culture. Gender identity: how people enact these attitudes and expectations associated with their gender. Gender construct: cultural assumptions about gender roles; learned gender relations. Ancestors date back 5-6 million years ago (3. 5 for hominid ancestors) Shift weight and adapt to support upright posture to carry infants. Stone tools and bones = meat eating and hunting and others not known. May have been other tools, but disintegrated (carrying for gathering) Males used intelligence to supply food while females stayed home with offspring shaped how they are viewed today (contemporary view) Community and families: females choosing sociable and friendly males and in turn eventually males became fathers . Developed from when a baby is born.
