Document Summary

It"s the systematic study of humankind, both in the past and in the present: interested in past societies, as well as present day societies. Human culture learned behaviours and beliefs that shape our human experiences: examples: religion, spirituality, identities (race, religion, gender, ethnicity, nationalism) food preferences, etc. Question: what are some of the ways in which we learn about culture: language some languages are gendered and make heavy use of gender in vocabulary, celebrations for instance- days we take off, like canada day. A calculated way for the government to give us the day off but also a way to bombard us with canadian images. We learn to be canadian, we are not born canadian: mass media social media, etc, parents and family members how they raise us. From the minute we are born, we are gendered beings. Our parents dictate our gender by picking out our clothes, toys, etc.
